New Bandsaw Purchase
By Jack Barnhill On July 15th, 2010About two months ago I decided it was time to upgrade my bandsaw. It took about a month to sell my old bandsaw and pull together the rest of the money for the new saw. In the middle of June I ordered a new Grizzly G0555P. That’s the Polar Bear version of Grizzly’s venerable G0555 Ultimate 14” Bandsaw in almost all white (the sides of the table are still Grizzly green).
At the same time I ordered the saw from Grizzly, I also ordered the 6” Riser Block Kit and the Heavy-Duty Mobile Base. And, I ordered 4 new 105” Timber Wolf bandsaw blades from Suffolk Machinery. If you are a new customer, Suffolk has a Free Blade offer.
The riser Block Kit arrived first, then the Mobile Base and then the saw blades. Everything arrived in good condition. The corner of the box where the Riser Block was packed without any packing between it and the box was torn but the Block itself was not damaged in any way.
The bandsaw was initially on backorder and Grizzly told me that when I order it. It wasn’t expected to ship to me until July, 8 but, I got an email on June 26, that it had shipped. When it arrived the following Thursday, the box showed some minor shipping damage but nothing major.
The FedEx driver and my son helped me un-box and inspect the contents. Everything appeared to be in good condition when the FedEx driver noticed a dent in the motor housing.
The driver immediately called his office and wrote a description of the box and motor damage on the delivery receipt. We tried to put everything back in the box so the driver could take it back with him but couldn’t figure out the puzzle. I called Grizzly and arranged to have the damaged saw picked up the next day. It took me a while but I finally solved the puzzle and got everything back into the original shipping box.
FedEx picked up the damaged saw on Friday, July 2 and Grizzly had another new saw on its way to me on Tuesday, July 6.
The new saw was delivered on Friday July 9. The box was in almost pristine condition and, when the driver helped me unpack and inspect the contents, everything looked to be in perfect condition.
Next – Assemble and Test.
